OSWEGO â Oswego County Fire Coordinator Don Forbes reminds residents that open burning of leaves, grass and brush is prohibited by the New York state âBurn Banâ until May 14.
Forbes said that on Thursday, April 8, the Constantia Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a large outdoor fire on County Route 23, near County Route 23B.
The initial alarm quickly escalated to second and third alarms, bringing in additional resources from the eastern third of Oswego County. Before the incident was over, more than 27 agencies and over 100 personnel from three counties, including the Oswego County Sheriffâs drone unit, Onondaga County Sheriff Air One helicopter, and NYS Forest Rangers battled the fire for eight hours.
CONSTANTIA - At around 10:52 p.m. on Saturday, April 10, members of the Oswego County Sheriffâs Office discovered a one-vehicle motor vehicle accident on State Route 49 at the intersection of Adrian Circle in the town of Constantia, it appeared that the accident occurred moments before the discovery.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that a 2004 Ford Mustang was traveling west on State Route 49 when it left the roadway on the north shoulder striking several trees.
The driver and only occupant of the Ford Mustang was pronounced dead at the scene. The accident is still under investigation and the name of the person involved will be released pending proper notification to their family.

Constantia, N.Y. One person was killed late Saturday after a car crashed into a stretch of trees in Oswego County.
Deputies were on patrol in Constantia at 10:52 p.m. when they discovered the crash on Route 49, said the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office. The driver of the 2004 Ford Mustang the only car involved in the accident died at the scene, deputies said.
The sheriff’s office said the driver’s name will be released after the person’s family is notified.
The accident happened around 10:50 p.m. likely moments before deputies found the crashed car, deputies said.
