US: 1 officer killed, 3 wounded in standoff with Texas gunman
One officer was killed and three others were wounded when a police standoff in a small West Texas city erupted in a gunfire. The incident involved a man reported as possibly armed shortly after 1 pm on Thursday on a residential street in Levelland, about 50 kilometers west of Lubbock.
The confrontation escalated quickly, gunfire erupted as the suspect barricaded himself inside a house, and a standoff ensued.
It was not immediately clear what prompted the man to open fire or to barricade himself in a house.
Three of the wounded officers were taken to a Lubbock hospital. An officer taken to a Levelland hospital, Sgt. Josh Bartlett of the Lubbock County Sheriff s Office, died of his wounds, according to a sheriff s office statement.

The incident involved a man barricaded in a house shortly after 1 p.m. Thursday on a residential street in Levelland, about 30 miles (50 kilometers) west of Lubbock. Three of the wounded officers were taken to a Lubbock hospital and one officer went to a Levelland hospital, which placed itself on lockdown.
One of the officers taken to Lubbock, Sgt. Josh Bartlett, leader of the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office tactical unit, died at the Lubbock hospital, according to a statement from the Justices of the Peace and Constables Association of Texas. Two other deputies, one from Lubbock County and one from Hockley County, were in critical condition, the association said. A Levelland police officer also was wounded.

A Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office deputy was shot and killed during a SWAT standoff in the West Texas city of Levelland. Two other deputies were shot and are in critical condition, according to reports from Lubbock.
The Justices of the Peace and Constables Association of Texas posted on Facebook that the leader of the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team was shot and killed Thursday afternoon during a standoff in Levelland, Texas. The organization reported that two other deputies were shot and are listed in critical condition. Another Hockley County deputy and a Levelland Police Department officer were also reported to be injured during the ongoing standoff.
