A police officer has been arrested in a sting
operation after allegedly attempting to extort money from a Randburg hotel
owner.
The lieutenant colonel, 55, attached to Douglasdale
police station in Johannesburg, was positively linked with extortion and
corruption allegations , said Hawks spokesperson Captain Ndivhuwo Mulamu.
Mulamu said the Hawks arrested the police officer
at his home in Aspen Hills in Johannesburg South on Wednesday.

The Hawks swooped on a senior policeman who has been charged in a corruption case for allegedly demanding R60 000 from a brothel owner.
The Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation unit in Germiston conducted a sting operation which led to the arrest of a 55-year-old senior policeman on charges of extortion and corruption this week.
Hawks Investigators swooped on an SAPS lieutenant colonel who is attached as a member of the Douglasdale police station, in Johannesburg after he was positively linked to allegations of extortion and corruption allegations on Wednesday 7 April.
Hawks spokesperson Captain Ndivhuwo Mulamu said the lieutenant colonel’s arrest was linked to a case of alleged extortion and corruption which took place at a Bed & Breakfast establishment in Randburg.

He was arrested at Aspen Hills home, south of Johannesburg.
The man was arrested together with another police officer, Constable Soja Tshabalala, after threatening to arrest a complainant for not complying with tax regulations and operating an illegal brothel in Randburg.
They allegedly demanded an amount of R60 000 from the complainant in March 2018. This is an ongoing major investigation involving alleged corrupt police officials within our ranks,” says Gauteng Hawks spokesperson Ndivhuwo Mulamu.
The colonel s arrest is additional of that of constable Soja Tshabalala we arrested last month and since remanded in custody for the same extortion and corruption allegations.”

It has not been a great week for law enforcement officers who have been accused of corruption as yet another one has been nabbed.
