Man avoids immediate jail term for serious Whitehaven bar assault

A man has avoided an immediate prison sentence after a serious assault at a bar in West Cumbria.
Karl Olstrum, aged 29, of Ullswater Avenue, Whitehaven was sentenced today to 16 months at Carlisle Crown Court for inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent.
The sentence was suspended for two years.
Olstrum pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing on January 13.
On December 7, 2019, at a bar on Duke Street, Whitehaven Oestrumâs victim entered the bar just after 10pm.
Olstrum was stood at the bar as the victim ordered drinks, a short while later the victim headed to the toilet and Olstrum followed.
