Minnesota conservation officers busy with off-road vehicle enforcement

Fishing, boat and water safety, and invasive species enforcement were the main focuses of the contacts. Enforcement action for the past week included no angling license in possession, failure to display watercraft registration and failure to validate a sturgeon tag. CO Curtis Simonson (International Falls 2) reports working the Rainy River throughout the past week checking sturgeon anglers. He also monitored beaver-trapping activity.

As off-highway vehicle traffic increases, DNR officers report numerous violations

Written By: Minnesota Department of Natural Resources | 10:00 am, Apr. 6, 2021 × District 5 Eveleth area Conservation Officer Darrin Kittelson (International Falls 1) reports Rainy River fishing continues to be the main emphasis of the workload as people are fishing from International Falls to Baudette and out into Lake of the Woods. Enforcement action for the week included no angling license; failure to display boat registration; insufficient number of personal flotation devices; no fire extinguisher onboard; angling with extra lines; and possession of a small amount of marijuana. He also responded to a grass fire, which is still being investigated.

ATVs hit trails as snowmobiling season comes to close

Written By: Minnesota Department of Natural Resources | 11:26 am, Mar. 9, 2021 × District 5 Eveleth area Conservation Officer Darrin Kittelson (International Falls 1) reports that last weekend was most likely the end of snowmobile trail riding for the season. Lots of people were out ice fishing and enjoying the warm and sunny weather. Approximately 30 area youth were trained and received their snowmobile safety certification. Enforcement action for the week included angling license violations and ATV and snowmobile registration issues. CO Curtis Simonson (International Falls 2) reports spending time last week checking ice anglers on area lakes. People are starting to have some success fishing on area lakes. Simonson would like to remind people to remain safe on the ice and be aware the ice will disappear fast with the warm weather we are having.
