Republic Services, which owns Middle Point Landfill in Walter Hill, sent a letter to Rutherford County officials Friday stating the company will put a pause on its state application to expand the facility.
In an interview Thursday, Rutherford County Mayor Bill Ketron told The Daily News Journal the company would be withdrawing the application submitted to the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation April 12. The expansion would add 99.45 acres to the current 207.3-acre disposal area.
The application is not being withdrawn, according to Friday s letter from Middle Point General Manager Michael Classen on behalf of the Phoenix-based solid waste company. The initial application is the first step in a two-part process and TDEC must respond within 30 days.
