The Vatican has announced that women and lay people will be able to vote in the next general assembly of bishops, marking a symbolic change for the Catholic Church. The global consultation on the future of the Church is set to take place in October in Rome, with new rules stating that 50% of the 70 people chosen to take part must be women and that young people's presence be emphasized.
