Proposed changes to ministerial zoning orders (MZO) introduced by the Ontario government have several organizations, such as the Ontario Federation of Agriculture (OFA), worried.
The amendments are found within Bill 257, which was tabled in early March and seeks to enhance and support broadband and infrastructure expansion in rural areas. A ministerial zoning order allows for the rezoning of an area of land without public consultation, which could then lead to developers converting farmland into residential or commercial buildings without opposition.
