Velesto Provides Update on Sunken Rig

Velesto Energy Berhad has provided an update on the Velesto Naga 7 rig, which was The company announced on Thursday that the focus remains on rescue, evacuation, and recovery efforts and revealed that all 101 personnel on-board the rig had been transferred safely to Miri, Sarawak. As of Thursday, Velesto Energy highlighted that it was unable to estimate the overall financial impact on the group from the incident but outlined that it expects this to be mitigated as the rig is “adequately insured”. Velesto Energy said it is working closely with the client and insurers and providing full cooperation to the relevant authorities. The company also noted that other businesses of the group are operating as usual, including the other six rigs in its fleet.

Marine Dept to probe sinking of Naga 7 drilling rig

KUCHING: The Marine Department will investigate the sinking of the Naga 7 drilling rig off Miri. An investigation team has been set up by the Sarawak region marine department to find out the cause of the incident, the department said in a statement on Wednesday (May 5). The department confirmed receiving a report of the incident which occurred at about 2.45pm Monday (May 3), about 139 nautical miles from Miri. The Naga 7 jack-up rig was carrying out pre-loading works when one of its legs was said to have punctured through the seabed, causing it to list. The rig is owned by Velesto Energy Bhd and chartered by oil and gas company ConocoPhillips Sarawak Ltd.
