Dells, St. Mary set to make history this weekend

Head south to Sioux Falls?
Head north to Aberdeen?
Either way, Dell Rapids is well represented in this year’s boys state basketball tournaments.
For the first time, both Dell Rapids public and St. Mary will be competing in a state tournament in the same year. The Quarriers qualified for the Class A tourney in Sioux Falls and St. Mary locked in one of the eight spots in the Class B tournament in Aberdeen.
That’s quite a feat for a town with a population of 4,000. Other cities in South Dakota have had similar scenarios, but Dells is by far the smallest. It’s happened multiple times in Sioux Falls, Rapid City and Aberdeen. Mitchell and Mitchell Christian both reached state tournaments three different times.
