The first day in the trial of two officers charged with the second-degree murder of George Robinson revealed what direction attorneys plan to take as they attempt to convince a jury of their guilt or innocence.
Jurors will have to decide if the actions of Lincoln Lampley and Desmond Barney, both Jackson police officers at the time, led directly to the death of Robinson or if Robinson died of other causes.
Police confronted Robinson on Jan. 13, 2019. He was hospitalized about seven hours after the encounter and died two days later.
Lampley and Barney, along with former JPD officer Anthony Fox, were indicted by a Hinds County Grand Jury on second-degree murder charges in Robinson s death in January 2019. All three officers have pleaded not guilty.
