Highlights of Connecticut s cannabis legalization bill

(AP) The Connecticut state Senate on Thursday gave final legislative approval to a wide-ranging bill that legalizes the adult use of cannabis, sending the legislation to Gov. Ned Lamont, who said he will sign it into law. Following are highlights of the proposal. Beginning July 1, the bill allows individuals age 21 and older to possess or consume up to 1.5 ounces of “cannabis plant material” and up to five ounces in a locked container in a home or in the trunk or locked glove box in the person’s vehicle. Beginning July 1, police are prohibited from arresting anyone under age 18 for possession of marijuana. Instead, those found with less than five ounces of cannabis plant material or an equivalent amount of a cannabis product, face a written warning for a first offense and a possible referral to a youth services bureau.
