City Council discusses broadband access
December 16, 2020BERLIN On Dec. 7, the Berlin City Council held a work session that began with a discussion surrounding a broadband committee.
The Coös County Commissioners created a Broadband Committee so that a group with representatives from surrounding towns along with the State and the North Country Council can review internet access and availability in the North Country. As a result, Berlin will apply for planning grants from the USDA to decide where the gaps are in internet access.
When questioned what areas of Berlin are not covered by Spectrum, it was noted that everyone will eventually have the ability to acquire fiber, which currently is only accessible on East Milan Road and on Main Street. The new Broadband Committee will likely meet once a month, with the North Country Council taking the lead. Berlin s Community Development Director, Pamela LaFlamme was appointed to the committee, with the approval of the Council.
