CHICAGO (WBBM) You could say it’s all hands on deck.
The feds and local officials alike are trying to stop carjackings. It underscores just how serious carjacking is across the Chicago area. And politicians are hearing from scared constituents.
CBS 2’s Jim Williams reports U.S. Congressman Bobby Rush is hosting a town hall meeting Monday night.
From the streets of Chicago, Congressman Bobby Rush has heard the same question repeatedly:
“Is there anything you can do?”
Can he do anything about Chicago’s carjacking epidemic? Congressman Rush is hosting a virtual town hall meeting Monday night. He’s invited Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx, along with Chicago’s top feds: U.S. Attorney John Lausch and FBI special agent in charge Emmerson Buie.
Chicago Police suspended 17 cops captured on surveillance video lounging inside a burglarized campaign office of a Democrat congressman as people citywide vandalized and stole from businesses.
The cops are first shown entering the campaign office of Congressman Bobby Rush around 1am on June 1.
Several officers are seen making popcorn and napping in the office at differing times amid the widespread civil unrest last year.
Union contract rules allow the cops to appeal their suspensions, the Chicago Tribune reported.
Fraternal Order of Police President John Catanzara told the Chicago Sun-Times that the suspensions of 17 officers and supervisors ranged from one day to 20 days.
