governor cuomo announced there will be a special election. to we know yet who some of the candidates may be to fill the seat? ayman, it could potentially be a competitive election. it s a district that swung back and forth over the years. and there are already a few front runners on either side. in particular a staten island prosecutor who might be an early favorite. some of our viewers may remember the congressman. he made headlines for the wrong reason reasons. he reported edwhat was his reputation like on capitol hill? well, ayman, i think his reputation on capitol hill was the one many of us saw. he was viewed as pugnacious guy, in addition to threatening to throw the reporter over he threatened to break him in half. he was in the headlines for various incidents whether it was at a brooklyn bar or at a bar in queens where he apparently
represents staten island and parts of brooklyn here in new york. this is actually consider add very competitive congressional district. it was before grimm represented by a democrat. this is a seat that both parties will be aggressively targeting in any special election and congressman grimm will be sentenced in june. but for now, a late christmas present as congressman grimm will voluntarily give up his seat sparing the congress from having to make some embarrassing decisions at the start of the year. this news on the same night that another member of the house finds himself in hot water. steve ska lease gave a statement regarding kmiet supremacist. ska lease himself giving a

[ bleep ] . congressman grimm says he will resign on january 5. to another house republican in hot water this morning, majority whip steve scalise denying ties to a white supremacist organization but admitting he likely spoke to that group in 2002. scalise reportedly addressed a group founded by former kkk leader david duke when he served in the louisiana statehouse. the congressman maintains he didn t know the group held racist views and says he detests all hate groups. cnn s athena jones is following that story from washington.
