yeah, chris, this is a significant development. it s really the first public acknowledgment by the house ethics committee that they are moving forward with a full-scale investigation into embattled congressman george santos of new york. of course, santos accused of doctoring his resume, potential election financing mistakes and many other things. this is the first time that we ve known for a fact that the ethics committee is going to take a full scale investigation into this, and what they ve decided to do is impanel a subcommittee that s going to be specifically tasked with looking into the santos allegations. it s going to be chaired by congressman david joyce. now, this will probably be the last we hear from them publicly as this process plays itself out. in general, the ethics committee does the lion s share of their work behind closed doors. we ve known for some time there have been a number of complaints that were filed with the ethics committee from other members of congress,
government that explicitly is against conservatives, so we ll see i think a lot of pushback from them. their deal is to rebut all the claims that republican lawmakers are planning to make today, john. well, we ll have an open mind and see how it plays out, sara, thank you. let s get perspective from a republican house member not afraid to buck his party on some issues. congressman david joyce, for example, did not join the 139 house republicans who tried to overturn the 2020 election even after the attack on the capitol. congressman joyce also among 14 house republicans to vote for the recent gun safety law and 1 of 39 to vote for same-sex marriage protections. welcome to the program and thanks for coming in. you re in the early days of this new republican majority. your fellow ohioan jim jordan believes the justice department and other agencies of the government have been weaponized against conservatives. do you share that belief and as they launch these committee hearings what woul
take the bait. but one of the most outspoken republicans, marjorie taylor greene insists the chaos served a purpose. i wasn t goaded into anything. i was reacting based on how the american people feel. many republicans in the house have been used in this lie that president biden and other democrats keep telling, so, no, we aren t planning to cut social security and because i called him a liar on the house floor, we settled that issue right there at the state of the union. congressman david joyce of ohio, republican, still with us. our reporters back as well. who won that debate? did the president come out with the upper hand or is marjorie taylor greene right in his quote, unquote lie the president has a much bigger bully pulpit using to kick off his 24 campaign and frame the debate going forward but i think it s intellectually dishonest. i m sorry he did that. i was hoping to hear more about what he will do to cure the ills of this country. he was elected as the great
the congressman was gracious enough to stay with us. we ll bring back our reporters in the next segment and talk about what it s like working with speaker mccarthy in the first weeks. congressman joyce will stay with us as our great reporters come back to the table, as well. one role of a lifetime. one sore throat. but she had enough. she took mucinex instasoothe sore throat lozenges. show your sore throat who s boss. mucinex instasoothe. works in seconds, lasts r hours. - super excited to open up my diploma from southern new hampshire university. - i m nervous, i m excited. - [man] okay, let s see it. let s see it. - oh my gosh. - jesus suarez, i did it and it s here. are supporting raphael warnock, there are so many types of activists and political organizations also on the ground. so, there is a huge effort to contact voters. they re sending text messages. they re making phone calls. there are knocking on doors. and it looks like they got people to vote who may be worn as a gauge for the general election. sounds like that party is just getting started there behind you. i will let you go so you can do your job. we appreciate you joining us this hour. thank you. all eyes on that runoff on tuesday. new reaction today, everybody, to the suspension of rapper ye from twitter after he posted a swastika and made antisemitic comments. he has a message for his good friend, donald trump. first, let me say that president trump did great things for israel. he recognized jerusalem as our capital. long overdue since king david
