The proposal that you heard discussed that was we put out some details yesterday on would be the first major expansion of the earned income tax credit for people without dependent children since 1993. It would address so many policy issues that people have raised from house to encourage younger people to encourage work, help people with disabilities get back into the work force, and ensure that more people with the combination of the earned income tax credit, minimum wage dont work fulltime and live in poverty or raise any family members in poverty. The president this is an important progression. 20 years ago there were 1. 4 million americans being pulled out of poverty because of the earned income tax credit or similar refundable tax credits.
