An independent source said the credit card bill of rights that was supported by the cfpb saves consumers 20 billion a year. That is a huge step forward for onsumers. And the bureau has been willing to make sensible changes when it needed to. Last year they adopted amendments to the card act that would allow stayathome spouses to take out credit cards in their own names. That was commonsense fix for an unintended problem for stayathome spouses that were credit worthy and they made the decision to make them able to get these credit cards. President obama last night i signed legislation to reopen our government and pay americas bills. Because democrats and responsible republicans came together, first Government Shutdown in 17 years is now over. The first defaults in more than 200 years will not happen. These threats to our economy have now been lifted and i want to thank those democrats and republicans for getting this job done. Now, there has been a lot of discussion lately of the politics of this shutdown. But lets be clear, there are no winners. These last few weeks have inflicted completely unnecessary damage on our economy. We dont know yet the full scope of the damage, but every analyst out there believes it slowed our growth.
