lot of influence. but, the reality is that the public is demanding change. and i think you will see change. we have offered six bills to deal with this. the senate is also working on those bills. i think obviously congress doesn t work rapidly in any situation. but this is a thoughtful process that will have long-term implications and i think we are going about it the right way. ainsley: all right. congressman. thank you so much for coming on with us. thank you. ainsley: you are welcome. all right, jillian has some headlines for us. jillian: here is good news we all did survive a day without social media. ainsley: i have a friend and she communicates with awful her friends through what s app. and she couldn t use the phone for like hours. it was like six or seven hours. steve: ainsley, how funny is what she said she could not use the phone. call, it s a phone. talk on it. jillian: pretty wild. ainsley: you can talk on what s app. international calls. brian: i wrote letters all day
off. but having done this for a while they often say those things and blow through it. the challenge is, when you look in the fall there s a ton of other things they have to deal with at the end of the fiscal year, the debt ceiling which may or may not be part of the reconciliation package, we re not sure. there s a lot of things they re going to run straight into. so it s hard to predict right now. congress doesn t work very well without a hard deadline, that s part of why the august recess is nice to have there, because it is something they run up against and everybody wants to get out of town and head home. the idea this is all going to come together very, very quickly i have my doubts. don t forget how complicated we use one word, reconciliation to describe the process they are using. just a vote on that bill can do go for days if republicans decide they want to put out enough amendments. when you see things overnight, that s where it stands. so it s in for a long slog.
model, these giant emergency intake facility, and there is not care that is permized and deep. that is on a level to get them back to their families faster. what are they going to do? they have not been able to do that yet. i think that is part of that frustration with this administration at this point. but health and human services secretary is going to go to the border today to look at fort bliss and conduct an investigation of what is going on. so they don t have the same problems as the trump administration. jacob soboroff separated, is new book is out now in paper
republicans wouldn t pass anything. please, somebody tell me, the biggest like what landmark bill did barack obama pass in the last six years? nothing. because they shut him down and now the last four years, trump had a tax cut. that s about it. that s about it. so this senate doesn t work, congress doesn t work. it doesn t pass big legislation anymore. that s why republicans win one year, democrats two years later. republicans win two years later. at some point, give the americans a choice. if democrats want to go big, it s bigger than i d want to go, if they want to go big, then go big and give americans that very clear choice which you can t get when nothing ever gets passed. that s exactly the argument made by the democrats in the senate, progressives who said, look, the choice is we can preserve this institution called the filibuster or we can get
the legislative branch is so weak. well, put up the list again because these are not the johnny isakson is a legislator s legislator. he enjoyed legislating. he was never a fire and brim stone guy. shimkus, they are sort of the cogs in the machine, sort of your everyday member of congress. i don t mean it to demean, but the rank and file in a good way. congress doesn t work anymore. they re like i can t get anything done anymore. also don t underestimate being in the minority to house republicans. that is a big deal. being in the minority in the senate you can live with it. but in the house you have no power. and i think the dccc has really done a good job with these folks of looking at the exit door and pushing them out. i get the sense that house republican leadership doesn t know how many more retirements are coming because they seem to
