The International Order of Alhambra announces its scholarship program providing financial aid to students pursuing careers in education for persons with disabilities. The Alhambra Scholarship awards assist college students studying to teach intellectually and developmentally disabled persons. The scholarships are granted on the basis that applicants are dedicated to the field of special education. The number of scholarships and amounts awarded vary from year to year, based on scholarship program fund levels. The program is open to all eligible U.S. residents. Eligibility guidelines include undergraduate juniors and seniors enrolled in qualifying programs; and master’s degree and community college students specializing in special education studies who have accrued half of the required graduation credits. For information on requirements and to obtain an application, contact Patrick Umbra, Alhambra Supreme Director for Region II, at 570-822-3597 or email Patrick Umbra@

The religious communities of southwest Kansas are feeling the reaches of the COVID-19 pandemic as some are cancelling in-person services and activities for their congregations at this time. Many churches are using technology for their services either over their websites or Facebook pages to keep contact with their parishioners. Others, depending on the size of the church, are having services as usual but limiting activities.

An outdoor Living Nativity Celebration is scheduled for two nights on the grounds of the First Presbyterian Church in Goshen, adding joy to the 2020 holiday season.
This production is the work of many church members, as well as community volunteers.
This year’s Confirmation Class is setting out more than 500 luminaries lining the sidewalks and the driveway. The Live Nativity is a first-time event for the church.
The dates for the outdoor Living Nativity are Sunday, Dec. 20, and Friday, Dec. 24, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The children’s cast will perform from 5:30 to 6 p.m., with the adults performing from 6 to 7 p.m.
