You could see this coming a mile away. Or more accurately, an ocean away. And more than a week out. On Sunday, February 7th low pressure formed off the North Carolina coast, moved northeast and deepened, hugging the Eastern Seaboard before scooting out into the Atlantic near Newfoundland the following day; after which a huge expanse of strong westerly winds developed on its southern flank northwest of the Azores.
