NEW CONCORD - Muskingum University is preparing to enter its third academic semester during a pandemic, this time with additional protocols in place to prevent outbreaks among students and staff.
Testing efforts will be increased on campus through the end of the school year, beginning before students return to campus on Monday. And additional housing is available should students test positive.
During their winter break, each student was mailed a home COVID-19 test kit to be administered on their own and sent back for lab results.
Faculty and staff are also participating in the testing before returning to work.
Kearns selected to lead New Concord Village Council

NEW CONCORD In its first meeting of the new year, New Concord Village elected councilmember Kristi (KJ) Kearns as president of council.
Council voted between Kearns and longtime council president Robert Dickson at Monday s meeting. Kearns, however, received four votes to Dickson s two.
The role of president of council will be to act in place of the mayor at council meetings when the mayor is absent. I ll certainly work hard and do my best (for the village), Kearns said.
She began her tenure on council in 2019 when she was appointed to fill the vacated seat left by Bil Kerrigan.

NEW CONCORD Village Council now has a new member.
On Dec. 16, New Concord council voted to appoint resident Jim Whitehair to the vacant seat created by Bob Baier s resignation.
Council members cited Whitehair s experience in policy review and his sincere desire to serve the community, as key factors in the decision.
Whitehair and his daughter have lived in New Concord for nearly six years. He is a quality control/quality assurance specialist in the Anti-Money Laundering Unit of Huntington National Bank. New Concord is a wonderful place to live and work, said Whitehair. Its residents take civic pride in their community and all it has to offer. For these reasons, I am humbled by my appointment to New Concord Village Council.
