that was a bigger number than expected. unemployment edging up, though, to 3.7%. it is still close to a 50-year low. edward lawrence, live at the white house with more. edward. a very big number but it shows the economy remains strong. that number the unemployment rate 3.7% did kick up but due to a good reason. because the size of the workforce increased. more people coming in off the sidelines looking for work. the economy averaged about 173,000 jobs per month over the past year. now, here is where the jobs are. in construction, they created about 21,000 jobs. manufacturing jobs are up related to that. the private service providing created 154,000, including professional services like architects, computer design services and scientific research. weaker than the speed of the job growth from last year but still very, very strong.
