The Kano/Jigawa Command of the Nigeria custom Service yesterday disclosed the seizure of contraband and smuggled items worth over N270 million Duty Paid Value.
The command said it has generated the sum of N5.5 billion as Internally Generated Revenue, IGR between January and March 2021.
Area Command Controller, Kano/Jigawa command, Comptroller Suleiman Umar disclosed the seizure while conducting journalists round the seized items at the command headquarters in Kano State. x
Umar said that Customs is battle-ready to rid the franchise states of smuggled goods.
He stated the seizures were made during its smart intelligence-gathering anchored through the joint efforts of Customs Intelligence Unit and Customs Police between January till date.
“In 2019 we generated N13bn as against the N21bn of this year. This is commendable despite the COVID-19 challenges,” he said.
He said 353 seizures with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N925 million were made while 15 suspected smugglers were apprehended and on administrative bail.
“In the last two weeks, we recovered seized items with a duty paid value of N24m.
“This shows you how committed and resilient our men are,” he said.

The Kano/Jigawa Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, on Thursday says it has raked in N21.018 billion as Internally Generated Revenue, IGR, for the year of 2020 which surpasses the N20 billion target for the year.
The Command’s Controller, Comptroller Suleiman Umar who disclosed this while briefing newsmen in Kano on Thursday on the achievements recorded by the command for the year, said the N21.018 billion is higher than the Command’s IGR for 2019 which stands at N13.9 billion.
Umar said the command within the year under review has recorded 353 seizures with a total Duty Paid Value of N924.6 million and arrested 15 persons in connection with the seizures.
