A Bridgeton councilman has been fined for violating the state’s conflict-of-interest laws in relation to the sale of city land to a corporation to which had had a connection.
James Edwards was fined $100 on March 19 by the local finance board and has 30 days to appeal, documents show.
News of the fine was first reported by John Paff of Transparency NJ.
In 2017, Edwards voted “yes” on a resolution to sell parcels of land owned to a group that planned to build the RiverGrove housing project. Edwards served on the board of Tri-County Community Action Agency, one of the developers’ partners.
