what was your move on what the administration is trying to do? the president has detailed all of us, thinking about the economy, right now, to work on this issue of trying to ease the inflationary pressures facing households and their budgets. this means our work at the ports. we know that something i never used to talk about, dwell time, how long containers are spending in the ports, that s down 50%. shelves are stocked at about 90%. which is about as good as it gets. and if you look at his competition agenda, trying to make sure that there s enough competition between firms and industries that are overly concentrated, so consumers can benefit from that, if you look at his energy policies of course, and we re releasing millions of barrels of oil into the energy supply part of the economy, all of those are near term help to ease inflationary pressures. of course, we got to do much more. the president consistently points out what a challenge these inflation rates are to household budg
chains to get goods through the ports, to get the trucks moving, to make sure that our competition agenda is helping consumers to realize price savings and longer term, to increase the economy s productive capacity by getting people into the job market with our care agenda, prescription drugs agenda and bringing down the costs of drugs, health care, education, this is all legislation we have to press going forward. you mentioned supply chains. the current protest in canada, impacting the united states now. two ford engine plants, they had to stop because of supply chains caused by the issues. had to also cancel an entire shipment because of it. it s going to snowball if it continues. what can the administration do about this supply chain issue? our customs and border patrol are very much engaged in this. i got a readout this morning, they talk to canadian authorities. obviously, we support peaceful protests as a key component of
chains at the ports, make sure getting from ship to shelf with our trucking agenda and make sure over the longer term, we expand the economy s productive capacity with the chips act. 50 billion invested in domestic semiconductor capacity. this isn t good news what came out today. reporter: no, look, anytime you have inflation this elevated, that s beating expectations, it s an absolute challenge for more than households but we also have to look at the bigger picture. what are we doing to help, is it helping? so at the ports, we know that the time that containers are spending at the ports is down significantly over the past few months. we know that shelves are stocked only 2 percentage points below where they were before this pandemic. we know that our competition agenda is out there helping to encourage price savings to be passed along to consumers.
