it can be it really depends on the infrastructure of the region. if the homes are predominantly made of wood and strong, then there s potentially less damage from an earthquake in the night. however, if the if the area is many unreinforced masonry buildings, apartment buildings, complexes, nighttime can be the worse time because people are at home and sleeping. that would become clear in the following hours. is it a safe assumption, in light of the fact that chile is in an area prone to earthquake, that at least infrastructure-wise and also education-wise, the community would, perhaps, have a better sense as to what they should do, they shouldn t do, when an earthquake strikes? can we take that leap of faith and believe psychologically they may be better prepared than, for example n haiti?
