To begin with, what are you see are the top religious stories as you are looking back . There are so many of them. But what stood out for me was Nelson Mandelas death and what he represented. Time magazine captured him as being the person who was the protester, prisoner and then the peacemaker. After spending 27 years in prison, we all know about that, but the idea of coming out, i think people expected violence and war and revolution and they got reconciliation. Peace and forgiveness , especially those who imprisoned him. I think that is major. When you talk about forgiveness being so essential to our faith. He is practicing it, i think it is very impactful, not just for the Christian Church but for the world. He is one great example. The number one story of 2013. Reporter mel knee woodrow in middle town. Most residents have not been allowed here and you can see why. This home, totally destroyed. All thats left standing here is really a swing set. But as we pan around, another street just directly or rather another home just directly across the street has been okay. This is what it looks like not far from Middletown Community United Methodist church. Homes in ashes. It survived the 1918 fire of middle town that took out all of downtown. So, 97 years later, it also survived. Our faith gives us strength to get over these tough times. Chp says this driver from Hidden Valley became verbally combative with firefighters in middle town because they didnt save his friends home. Law enforcemented officers escorted the man out. A much different scenario from the largely faithdriven community that has taken this in stride. Lake county, theres, you know, a big indian background here.
