bcoupland@tribtoday.com WARREN The Warren area had come to know Apostle Loretta Pernice for her work to help others facing challenges and addictions through the Elim Christian Center in Warren and Total Deliverance and Pathway Sober House. Pernice died Feb. 14 in the Intensive Care Unit at St. Joseph Warren Hospital following complications from a recent battle with COVID-19. She was 62. The Rev. T. Anthony Bronner, presiding bishop and chancellor of Turning the World Upside Down Covenant Fellowship Inc. extended his sympathies and condolences to the family of Pernice. “Pastor Pernice played an instrumental role in the developing of lives in the Warren and Ashtabula churches. She personified the relatable evangelist and the every person’s pastor,” Bronner said in a statement.

Apostle Pernice was born Wednesday, May 7, 1958, in Warren, the daughter of the late James D. and Janie May Reynolds Johnson. She was a lifelong area resident. She attended Warren Western Reserve High School. Apostle Pernice was the senior pastor and founder of Elim Christian Center in Warren. Apostle Pernice was born with an anointing on her life through the marriage of Elder James and Mother Janie May Johnson.

Brian Ward single-handedly organised a team of volunteers, set up rotas and set up a Covid-19-secure way to deliver more than 600 electronic tablets as part of the Keeping Connected project for charity BTM. During the pandemic it became clear that people with learning disabilities and older people who were in residential care or living alone needed a new way to connect to others. Brian created a simple guide with pictures to help those who struggled with IT. Brian said: “I am proud and emotional to have been associated with this achievement. It has been a privilege and a pleasure to have played my part in offering such generous help to many in such hard times. It was a big deal for many of the recipients that we managed to deliver such substantial help to them for keeping in touch with carers, friends and loved ones. YOUNGSTOWN Ohio State University student Hannah Emerson of Lordstown says the COVID-19 pandemic has made it more difficult to carry out the volunteering work she began as a child, but she recently found a way to help a nursing home resident. Emerson, 21, a criminology major, saw postings in mid-December on the social media site Craigslist from a man named Steve, a paralyzed resident of a Youngstown nursing home asking for someone to help him eat better. Steve’s complaints were about “poor quality, tiny portions of food they serve here. I’ve tried for three or four years to get better quality food,” he told Emerson.

Longtime director of Family Solutions leaves legacy of service

The coronavirus pandemic may be forcing a few delivery changes, but community organizations and churches throughout The T&D Region will st… Family Solutions, a program of the South Carolina Office of Rural Health, is the name for an umbrella of services that include Healthy Start, an infant and maternal wellness program, and Nurse-Family Partnership, a home visitation program for first-time mothers. An Orangeburg-based family wellness program will hold its 12th annual Infant Mortality Awareness and Scholarship Luncheon on Friday, Sept. 13. Healthy Start, which Family Solutions administers along with the NFP, works to reduce infant mortality in Barnwell, Allendale, Bamberg, Hampton and Orangeburg counties. The NFP program serves Orangeburg County.
