Community solar projects in New Mexico won’t start until April 2022 as the Public Regulation Commission (PRC) was conducting a rulemaking required by a bill passed during the State’s 2021 Legislative Session.
The Community Solar Act was signed into law earlier this year after being introduced and failing during previous sessions.
It called on the PRC to develop regulations that would allow community solar projects across the state.
Community solar allows customers to tap into shared “solar gardens” and receive credits on their electrical bills.
The gardens are smaller than large-scale utility solar installations but allow multiple users as opposed to residential, rooftop solar.
