McFarland made the announcement at Tuesday s meeting.
McFarland purchased a home in Columbia, Missouri recently where he and his family will relocate.
McFarland was named the new executive director of Missouri’s Community Service Commission on Oct. 13. The commission is in Jefferson City, about a 30-minute commute, McFarland said.
Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, McFarland worked for the commission remotely while his three children attended District 186 schools.
McFarland represents Subdistrict 3, which covers the northeast part of the District 186 map, extending north to the Pillsbury and Northgate neighborhoods. I m happy with the things we accomplished in the three terms I was on the board, working to improve support for minority students, ensuring that we don t discriminate against students or staff against their gender identity or their sexual orientation, McFarland said in an interview after the board meeting.

Michigan Community Service Commission offering funding for MLK Day volunteer projects
LANSING, Mich. – The Michigan Community Service Commission announced it will help support Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service volunteer projects by offering grants ranging from $100 to $1,000. Up to $30,000 will be awarded for projects held between Jan. 8 and Jan. 24, 2021.
“During the pandemic, we wanted a special focus on creating masks for children, thanking frontline workers and supporting needs in communities,” said Michigan Community Service Commission Executive Director Ginna Holmes. “It is a great opportunity to inspire Michiganders to serve in the spirit of Martin Luther King Jr.”
