Host commissioner rosenworcel, welcome to the communicators. If you would, start by talking about some of the issues that you fore be see the fcc dealing with this coming fall. Guest okay. Well, first of all, thank you for having me here on this show, and thank you also to cspan for the great Public Service work that you do and have done for decades. Issues before the fcc, we have a lot of them. Issues are diverse because in many ways the fcc oversees the digital economy, the information economy which by some measures accounts for as much as onesixth of the economy itself. I think there are a few things we have going on of particular interest though. One of those is wireless communications. And you can look around at the proliferation of phones, and thats probably no surprise be that its an area of real interest. But with you also have to consider some of the numbers. We now have more Wireless Phones in this country than we have people. One in three American Adults now has a tablet com
Hope you will follow the guidance in my budget recommendation and fully fund this effort. These courts provide a valuable service that helps get mississipians on the right path again. To combat serious crime in our state i have asked that you fund a Violent Crime strike force to impose a state federal and local Law Enforcement at officers these elite forces will respond to specific crime areas and hit gangs in drug dealers where they live. [applause] if you will give Law Enforcement the authority and the resources they need, they will get the job done. [applause] your Mississippi Department of Public Safety has done a remarkable job this year. With us tonight in the gallery as i find it apple ample of the selfless bravery of our troopers. Trooper first class kerpen stewart was recognized in 2012 as trooper of the year. While off duty and traveling to alabama troopers steward came upon a fiery crash. Hardworking taxpayers all across the state through tax cuts and withholding changes. Once passed, the total tax relief provided since i took office will be roughly 2 billion. [applause] first, we will reduce property taxes by 406 million. [applause] this is more than four times larger than the Property Tax Relief we passed last year, and it is vitally important to protect working families, senior citizens, farmers, and small businesses. The typical homeowner will see an actual reduction of 101 dollars on their next property tax bill. [applause] second, we will reduce income taxes by 98. 6 million. To to ensure we dont leave anyone behind in our economic recovery, we will target this tax relief to the lowest income tax bracket. If youre a family of four making 40,000, your savings will be 58. No one will get a bigger savings than that. Third, earlier today, i directed revenue secretary Rick Chandler to adjust withholding for state income taxes by 322. 6 million, so you can keep more of
My topic today is serious which presents one of most issuesl Foreign Policy we face. It lies to a heart critical to u. S. Security, a friend that is a place that is home to friends and partners. It is important because the Syrian Regime possesses chemical weapons that we cannot allow to fall into terrorist hands. It is important because the regime is collaborating with lockstep with in hezbollah. Syria is important because its people in seeking freedom and dignity has suffered unimaginable horrors. I also recognize how ambivalent americans are about the situation there. On the one hand, we americans share a desire, after two wars which have taken 6700 american lives and cost over 1 trillion, to invest taxpayer dollars in american schools and infrastructure. On the other hand, americans have heard the president s commitment that this will not iraq, this will not be afghanistan any use of force will be limited and tailored narrowly to the chemical weapons threat. On the one hand, we shar
Experts say they think were in the early phases of a global pandemic. The fact weve only reported eight cases in this country isjust because, again, our surveillance is focused on travellers. We think probably were picking up maybe one in three cases coming into the country at the current time. And why are unis using gagging orders to stop students from speaking out about sexual assault, bullying and poor teaching . They essentially said, you make any more of a fuss or even cry youre out.
