(WBTV) - Family, church leaders, community members, friends shared their stories. They were speaking to a community, hundreds of people, who came to a Rock Hill park Sunday evening to honor a family who died in a mass shooting Wednesday afternoon. The Rock Hill community is hurting and mourning the unfathomable. Dr. Robert Lesslie, 70, his wife Barbara Lesslie, 69, and their grandchildren 9-year-old Adah and 5-year-old Noah were found dead inside a home on Marshall Road shortly after 4:30 p.m.

Local Mom of Triplets Runs for Minden City Council

Submitted to the Minden Press-Herald by Candidate Mandi Hart for Publication Today, a mom of triplets in Minden, Louisiana, filed papers to run for a city council opening with the intention of improving the quality of life for not just her children but all children in the community. Mandi Sills Hart (Independent), the only woman in the race, announced her candidacy live from the Webster Parish Courthouse. The current seat was vacated by former Councilman Herbert Taylor (D) in March of 2020, after resigning from his seat. Mrs. Hart, originally from West Monroe, LA, chose to call Minden home in 2008 after marrying life-long resident, Donny Hart, son of Don and Betty Hart. The couple have 10 year old triplets who attend E.S. Richardson Elementary. Mrs. Hart is running for the open council position to help make Minden better for her children.

Eight minutes changed the course of 2020. It was Memorial Day. May 25. George Floyd was being arrested by Minneapolis police outside of a grocery store after authorities received a 911 call that someone paid with a counterfeit bill. The caller told authorities the man was acting erratically. Floyd, who is Black, matched the caller’s description of the suspect. Minneapolis police officers responded and handcuffed Floyd. Shortly thereafter, Officer Derek Chauvin, who is white, was caught on camera kneeling on Floyd’s neck on the curb of the city street. Floyd pleaded with Chauvin, gasping that he couldn’t breathe. He became unresponsive and later died at a nearby medical center.
