Former Oregon City equestrian shares story about OCHS coach Abigail Norton: Angie Wacker insisted I get up after I broke my back during practice As a member of the Oregon City equestrian team my junior and senior years of high school (2015-17), I read with interest the article in the OC News last week about Coach Angie Wacker s state ethics violations and wanted to share my own story. I fell off my horse while attending our first practice during Oregon High School Equestrian Teams (OHSET) drill tryouts. It was nobody s fault but my own; I had forgotten to tighten my cinch before getting on.

Pamplin Media Group - Opinion: Commissioner Shull s bigotry deserves to be canceled

February 01 2021 Candace Avalos: We do not feel safe on our streets and in our homes when hate goes unchecked. I am running for County commissioner to stand up for you the people, your families and your businesses, and to work for a brighter future for all of us. These are some of the first few words you can read on Mark Shull s campaign page for Clackamas County. But after it was uncovered recently that the newly elected commissioner has a documented history of disparaging Black and brown communities, some of us are wondering what he really meant when he said he d work for all of us.

Through the passage of House Bill 4401, the Oregon Legislature recognized the importance of having a safe and stable home. Pamplin Media Group - Opinion: Pay parents who ve had to support kids online learning

January 24 2021 State should offset the cost to Oregon families who have given up paychecks to accommodate forced home-based distance classes. The Oregon Department of Education recently announced relaxed guidelines for school reopenings. The new guidelines provide a roadmap for districts in the Portland area and much of the state to roll out in-person instruction for elementary school students. Regardless of the new guidelines, it is looking more likely that many of Oregon s largest school districts will not return to full-time, in-person instruction for all students this year. Earlier this month, the presidents of teachers unions representing Oregon s five largest school districts sent a letter to Gov. Kate Brown. The letter demanded all school staff be fully vaccinated before schools reopen for any in-person instruction. If all goes well, that means mid-February would be the soonest that schools can reopen.
