TRAIL: Artist Holly Scott has devised the nature trail at the TCR Hub, Barnard Castle
A COMMUNITY centre is aiming to get families up close and personal with nature this summer.
The TCR Hub, on the outskirts of Barnard Castle, boasts grounds with two ponds, woodland and other wild spaces to explore.
To make the most of its surroundings, staff at the centre have devised a nature trail around the grounds as well as pond-dipping and a challenge sheet to keep the kids entertained.
Created by artist Holly Scott, the nature trail features a series of hand painted illustrations to go and find in the grounds of the Hub, with a map, an information sheet and fun quiz about the creatures shown in the pictures.

A PACKED programme of summer activities has been organised by staff at a Barnard Castle community centre.
Everything from orienteering to art, music and drama is on offer at the TCR Hub, at Shaw Bank.
For those who like to explore the great outdoors, there are nature trail, pond dipping and orienteering sessions from 10am to 1pm on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from July 27 to August 31.
Orienteering takes place in the centre’s grounds and costs £5 per family.
WHEN Sunderland student Peter Asuata launched a foodbank more than a year ago, little could he have predicted how much demand for the service there would be. Covid-19 created a greater need for desperate families on Wearside to access the two foodbanks running a week at the RCCG Living Faith Church in North Bridge Street, Sunderland. Peter was determined not to allow the lockdown to stop providing support to those in need. Not satisfied with helping others through food donations, he managed to secure funding to purchase a minibus which he uses to distribute food and essential items door-to-door to those greatly affected by the virus.
