hatching right now, a deadly shooting at a dallas hospital sparking outrage today. the suspect, on parole and wearing an ankle bracelet. plus, a pledge to keep the student debt relief program moving full speed ahead, just as a court rules to hit the brakes for loan cancellations for now. and which major retailers won t be open on thanksgiving day? you re live in the cnn newsroom. hello, everyone. thank you for joining me. i m fredricka whitfield. in new york, officials say they re working to tackle the rising crime on the subway system. the city has sewn a seen a wavef crimes like this one. police releasing video of someone pushing someone off a subway platform. police are searching for the suspect. the nypd says subway crimes have skyrocketed 41% from the same time last year. the mayor and governor announcing new plans to address the problems. cnn s reporter is joining us live now. gloria, what are officials saying? reporter: that video you just showed there in many ways
eastern time. and by the time authorities arrived, the suspect had already shot and killed two hospital employees. we re told that methodist health system police responded first. an officer with the health system was the one who shot at this suspect, and as we re told, they were able to apprehend him and take him to another hospital. officials saying there is no threat at the moment. the hospital releasing a statement, i want to read part of it, where they say, during this devastating time, we want to ensure our patients and employees that dallas medical center is safe and there is no threat. our prayers with the families as well as our entire methodist family. again, this is two hospital employees that were shot and killed. of course, the community hospital system that is now grieving their loss.
