A Santa Cruz-based internet service provider recently received a $5.6 million state grant to bolster broadband services in rural areas of Monterey County and elsewhere.
The Big Sur area currently lacks widespread, reliable cellular service due to rugged terrain and remote areas. According to a press release from Rep. Panetta's office, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act invested $42.45 billion, with $1.86 billion to California, to support projects in unserved and underserved areas such as Big Sur.
The long-running effort seeks to get unruly drivers and pedestrians to stop dangerous practices such as illegally darting in front of cars and tourists stopping cars in the middle of a lane so passengers and drivers can jump out to snap photos of the iconic bridge.
