The Show Must Go On: Supporting the Arts as We Turn the Corner on COVID-19

Before the onset of the pandemic, arts and cultural organizations in the Greater Ithaca area were thriving, offering performances, shows, and cultural events that brought our community together in ways that truly united us all as one. It was just two summers ago that performers, artists, local officials, business leaders, and members of the community came together as we do best to enjoy all that our city and county’s cultural organizations have to offer. Let’s get back to that feeling and sense of community, as we work to turn the corner on COVID-19 this summer.  Americans for the Arts surveyed various organizations in the arts and culture sector, and determined that in Tompkins County alone, almost $2,000,000 in financial losses were expected due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Bilingual Regio (Royal) highlights lives of immigrant Latinx workers

By | May 14, 2021 “Regio (Royal),” a new theatre production that uses contemporary dance and puppetry to share stories about Latinx immigrant workers affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, premiers online May 21 and 23, produced by the Department of Performing and Media Arts, College of Arts and Sciences. Regio (Royal) premiers online May 21 and 23 The performance is a collaboration between choreographer Juan Manuel Aldape Muñoz, members of Lilypad Puppet Theatre, and Latinx dancers from the Ithaca community. This project is supported by the Cornell Council for the Arts, Community Arts Partnership, Latino Civic Association of Tompkins County, Migrations Initiative, and the Festival of Latin American Contemporary Choreographers. 

Rejoice the Vote to exhibit trophy for the Votingest City Challenge May 7

ITHACA, NY On Gallery Night,  May 7, from 5-7 p.m., Rejoice the Vote, in conjunction with the Community Arts Partnership, will be exhibiting its trophy for the Votingest City Challenge, along with an art show at the Tompkins County History Center, at 110 North Tioga St. The focus of Rejoice the Vote and this month-long art exhibit is the on-going struggle to achieve a fair and equitable democracy.  By Summer Rain, 16. Rejoice the Vote was founded by Jeff Furman, a long-time Ithaca resident who served on the Ben & Jerry’s Board of Directors for 40 years and was responsible for many of their social initiatives. 13th Annual Spring Writes Literary Festival begins May 5

ITHACA, NY t’s time once again for the Community Arts Partnership’s annual “Spring Writes Literary Festival”!   Now in its 13th year, the Festival includes over 40 free virtual events featuring over 100 local and regional writers. There are 25 literary themed panels, readings and performances scheduled from May 5-16, three additional community events in late May and June, and 13 writing workshops taking place from late May through November. The Festival’s line-up was juried from an open call for proposals, and curated by this year’s Artistic Director Jennifer Tennant. There is something for everyone.
