The subcommittee is meeting today to receive testimony on the state of First Responders medications. I now recognize myself for an Opening Statement. I want to welcome all witnesses here this morning on an issue that is vital to our Homeland Security. The ability of our First Responders to communicate. As noted in the 2006 National Baseline survey, there is a direct correlation between effective medications, interoperability and First Responders ability to save lives. In my hometown of new york city, we know ther this all too well. Both the first, both the office of emergency medications and First Responder network of authority were established in the wake of the medications failures of 911 and later in hurricane katrina. We have made a great deal of progress since those fateful disasters. States and localities have invested billion
Okay. Thank you. Thank you very much, adam, and thank you everyone for coming here. I look out in the audience and see all kinds of friends and colleagues out here. I so appreciate you coming, im going to sippingle out one person from the voice of america, alan high, who is great history from voice of america kept me from making an error in the speech im about to make. I need to thank him right now. Second, id like to acknowledge my predecessor as the director of the voice of america, david ensor, who has been as helpful and warm to me as any human being can be in helping prepare me for this big job. And we cannot regulate the international affairs. And now frankly we are working on behalf of days. We have tried our best to facilitate communications. Thank you. I just want to take note. Your expectations that the Transpacific Partnership will happen this year. Professor . [laughter] [laughter] [inaudible] [inaudible] secondly onbase, did i understand you correctly to say and i would hope and expect that this will be completed and ratified before the end of the Obama Administration and i guess that my question related to that is since next year is obviously a very Political Year in the United States, if it cannot be ratified by the end of the administration and this administration, do you think it is important to have it completed by the end of the administration . And then have a completed agreement, up in
Manned helicopters extremely expensive and not many local Law Enforcement agencies own them. Drones are cheap and the little ones arent that sophisticated. But what i think is really fascinating is the possibility of ariel surveillance the idea that you could fly something over a city. You could sort of see individuals Walking Around the streets and trap cars, so i think thats really fascinating. Cell phone data can be obtained. This is location dayta stretching back for as long as the mobile phone carrier wants to keep it. Text messages, browsing history. It can be records of phone calls people have dialed. Everything you do on social media, this is really depressing. As im listening, just tryinging to be as comprehensive as possible. There are circumstances in which you can get access to day to on peoples facebook or other accounts. We all know of people who share more there than perhaps would be wise. There is the story in maine of the guy who was who posted his you know marijuana p
