The Executive Director of the African Centre for Parliamentary Affairs (ACEPA) says it comes as no surprise that some of the Ministerial nominees who recently appeared before Parliament’s Appointee Committee have been rejected.
Dr Rashid Dramani who was speaking on JoyNews’ AM Show Tuesday said the ministerial vetting must be based on their substance.
He was, therefore, not surprised when the National Democratic Congress (NDC) MPs on the Committee outrightly rejected some of the nominees.
“A few of them, I was not surprised. If you take the Communications Minister-designate [Ursula Ekuful], before the start of the process, there had been calls by CSOs on how she discharged her duties in the previous government and her conduct. So I wasn’t surprised; I knew that that nominee is going to have some challenges.

The Techiman South MP, Elizabeth Ofosu-Agyare has said the Communications Minister-designate’s claim of apologising to the Asutifi South MP is untrue.
According to her, before the start of Ursula Owusu-Ekuful’s vetting on Monday, she had contacted Collins Dauda to find out if the nominee had apologised to him after she shoved him off his chair during the inauguration of the 8
th Parliament.
“I spoke with honourable Collins Dauda five minute before I entered this House and he told me you have failed to apologise to him,” Ofosu-Agyare told Parliament’s Appointee Committee.
The Communications Minister-designate during her vetting, revealed that she had apologized to her fellow colleague for unprovoked attack during the wee hours of January 7.
Communications and Digitization Minister-designate Ursula Owusu-Ekuful has said that with time, women will be asking for COVID-19 negative test before they accept to be in relationships.
There are reports suggesting that people who have been infected with the deadly virus and have recovered have erectile dysfunctioning.
Some men have even confessed that the virus causes total impotence.
Reacting to these stories, the Communications Minister-designate advised that Ghanaians especially men should make it point to put on their masks so as to protect their relationships.
She indicated that with the way things are going and the researches which are suggesting the virus has could have an adverse effect on one’s manhood, women may now request for men to prove they have tested negative before they accept to be in a relationship.
The Ablekuma West Women’s Network has expressed satisfaction with the re-appointment of Ursula Owusu-Ekuful as Minister of Communications by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
The Network indicated that considering her exceptional performance in the first term of the government, her reappointment as the first female Minister of Communications leading the digital revolution of the country is not surprising.
It indicated that the widespread commendations and the general acceptance of her nomination by industry players and the international community are testimony to her excellent performance.
Convener of the Ablekuma West Women’s Network, Emelia Agyemfra, in a statement copied to the Ghanaian Publisher, applauded the President for the confidence he has reposed in their Member of Parliament.
