The Mizoram IAS Association has backed Nazuk Kumar, the State’s Higher and Technical Education Director who was asked by an influential students’ union to leave the department in order to avoid “conflict” and “communal issues”.

The Mizo Students’ Union (MSU) on March 8 wrote to Ms. Kumar, a 29-year-old IAS officer of the AGMUT cadre, advising her to make space for a Mizo officer and join some other department because a “non-local must not hold such an important (Higher and Technical Education) post as it involves the careers of indigenous students”.

An influential students’ union in Mizoram has asked a non-Mizo IAS officer to leave the Higher and Technical Education Department and shift to another in order to avoid “conflict” and “communal issues”.

Seven lakh out of the total 50 lakh OMS cards, distributed during the closure declared by the government due to Covid-19 pandemic, were found to be fake, Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder admitted to a parliamentary body.
The minister revealed this information at a meeting of the parliamentary standing committee on food ministry on September 24 and the meeting minutes were approved at the meeting of the parliamentary standing committee held yesterday (December 30).
The Daily Star managed to collect the minutes of the meeting that showed the information.

Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder has admitted that seven lakh fake OMS cards were distributed during the Covid-19 lockdown in the country last year.
The minister said this during a meeting of the parliamentary standing committee on the food ministry on September 24, according to minutes of the meeting.
This newspaper has obtained a copy of the meeting minutes. The minutes were approved by the parliamentary body at its following meeting on Wednesday. A total of 50 lakh OMS [open market sale] cards were distributed during the coronavirus situation. Of them, seven lakh have been found to be fake, Sadhan told the meeting.
