The Kampong Cham provincial election commission has set up a working group to investigate allegations levelled by the ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) against 15 Candlelight Party candidates in 11 communes of Kang Meas district.
Prime Minister Hun Sen has expressed satisfaction at the absence of violence during the first weeks of the commune council election campaign, which kicked off on May 19 and set to continue until June 3. Speaking from Davos, Switzerland, after the World Economic Forum, Hun Sen said the first six days of local campaigning was carried out peacefully.
The National Election Committee (NEC) has requested citizens who do not have a national ID card to apply for an election identification document at the Commune Election Commission in their locality. They should apply within the 30 day period of May 5 to June 3.
The National Election Committee (NEC) instructed the municipal and provincial election commissions to request cooperation from the provincial board of governors to hold joint weekly meetings in-person or online. The meetings are to ensure that the coming commune council elections will run smoothly and are scheduled from now until after the elections are completed.
The National Election Committee (NEC) on April 17 began distributing voter information cards to almost 90 per cent of the Kingdom’s registered voters. The 9,205,681 cards will inform voters of their registered name on the voter list, associated ID numbers, voting location and the time and date that they should cast their ballots in the June 5 Commune Council Election.
