It was a disaster waiting to happen. Communal tensions in Howrah, West Bengal flared up for a second time in a row, despite warnings and the police not imposing curbs swiftly.
After fresh incidents of stone pelting in Howrah’s Kazipara on Friday, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Governor C V Ananda Bose reviewed the situation and prohibitory orders imposed besides increasing riot police deployment in the area.
BJP Lok Sabha MP Jagannath Sarkar has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah requesting the intervention of Central forces to prevent the spread of repression in Howrah .
