The Australian Financial Review was born 70 years ago on August 16, 1951, within the lifetime of leading business figures among those at a special dinner for the masthead’s annual The Australian Financial Review Business Summit this week.
Yet that birth was only 50 years since the Federation of the six state colonies into the Commonwealth of Australia in 1901. So in that sense, the nation was “young and free”.
