Senior journalist Hasan Shahriar passes away Hasan Shahriar Star Digital Report Star Digital Report Prominent journalist and former president of Jatiya Press Club Hasan Shahriar died at a private hospital in Dhaka this morning. He breathed his last at the ICU of the hospital around 11:45am, Farida Yasmin, president of Jatiya Press Club, said. Shahriar was admitted to the hospital on Thursday with Covid-19 symptoms. UNB reports, Shahriar retired from the daily Ittefaq as its executive editor in 2008 after serving the newspaper for a long time. He was the first editor of the Daily Sun and chief editor of Chattogram-based daily People s View.

He was laid to rest after the second namaj-e-janaza after Magreb prayers. Earlier, his first namaj-e-janaza was held at Jatiya Press Club premises after Asr prayers. The janaza was attended by his long time colleagues and leaders of different journalists’ organisations. Later, rich tributes were paid to him by placing wreaths on his coffin. Recalling Hasan Shahriar’s contributions to flourish the mass media, they said his death was an irreparable loss to the country.

The head of state prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family. The veteran journalist breathed his last at about 11.45 am today while undergoing treatment at a city hospital at the age of 76.

Noted journalist Hasan Shahriar no more 225 File Photo DHAKA, April 10, 2021 (BSS) – Former president of Jatiya Press Club and executive editor of the daily Ittefaq Hasan Shahriar passed away at the age of 74 while undergoing treatment at a city hospital today. The veteran journalist breathed his last at Impulse Hospital at around 12 noon, immediate past president of JPC Saiful Alam told BSS. Shahriar, also a two-term president of Commonwealth Journalists’ Association (CJA), was admitted to the hospital at around 1:30 am on Friday with symptoms of coronavirus. Later, he tested positive for the virus. His namaj-e-janaza will be held on the premises of the Jatiya Press Club after Asr prayers today, he added.
