TOWAMENCINÂ â With one traffic trouble spot now all but fixed, Towamencin officials are turning their eye toward another.
The township supervisors voted unanimously Wednesday night to seek grant funds that could plan fixes to the intersection of Welsh and Orvilla Roads. The grant application will request $500,000 to $600,000 in funding for preliminary engineering and final design for the intersection improvements, in order to obtain the necessary permits, said supervisors Chairman Chuck Wilson.

The four-way intersection of Welsh and Orvilla is split between Hatfield Township to the north, where a cemetery lies on the northwest corner and a fuel station on the northeast, and residences on the Towamencin side to the south. That intersection was identified by Towamencin s traffic engineer in 2019 as a spot that could qualify for upgrades including possible widening to add left turn lanes, and/or changes to the signal timing to facilitate traffic flow.
