This was just as some youths in Niger Delta blocked the busy East-West road in protest over the appointment of a sole administrator for commission. Before passing the NDDC budget, the upper chamber approved a recommendation by the Senate and House of Representatives Committees on Niger Delta for an extension of the budget implementation timeline to  March 31, 2021. The approval followed consideration of a report by the Committee on Niger Delta.

Senate Passes N453 2bn NDDC Budget for 2020

By Chuks Okocha The Nigerian Senate has passed the Niger Delta Development Commission’s N453,200,000,000 budget for 2020. The budget for the Commission covers capital, personnel expenditure, Overhead Expenditure, Internal Capital Expenditure and Development Projects for the period ending on March 31, 2021. The passage of the budget was as a result of the consideration of the report by the Chairman, Senate Committee on Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Delta North that the Senate “do receive and consider the report of the Committee on the 2020 Budget estimates…” The Committee on Niger Delta chairman, Senator Nwaoboshi, who laid the NDDC budget before the Senate said that the Committee carried out a holistic oversight of the Commission and noted that the developmental aspect of the budget was basically a rollover of the 2019 Budget which was in furtherance of the drive to ensure completion of ongoing projects.
