Following the demand from South-South Governors that President Muhammadu Buhari should place all funds accruing to Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, with the exception of salaries, in an escrow account until he (Buhari) inaugurated a board in accordance with the Act establishing the interventionist agency, group known as Niger Delta Renaissance Coalition, Tuesday threw its weight behind them, calling for the inauguration of NDDC board.
In a statement signed by Comrade Damian Nwikinaka, National Chairman, the group said: “We are in full agreement with the demands of the Governors of the South-South States for the immediate inauguration of the Governing Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to run the agency in line with the NDDC Act.

The Senate, yesterday, approved N453.2 billion as annual budget for Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, for 2021 fiscal year.
This was just as some youths in Niger Delta blocked the busy East-West road in protest over the appointment of a sole administrator for commission.
Before passing the NDDC budget, the upper chamber approved a recommendation by the Senate and House of Representatives Committees on Niger Delta for an extension of the budget implementation timeline to March 31, 2021.
The approval followed consideration of a report by the Committee on Niger Delta.

The Senate on Monday took a swipe at President Muhammadu Buhari, describing his appointment of a Sole Administrator for the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC as illegal and alien to the Act establishing the Commission.
Speaking on Monday, in Abuja prior to the passage of the NDDC 2020 Budget Estimates during plenary, President of the Senate, Senator Ahmad Lawan noted that though the role of the Sole Administrator is unknown to the law just like the Interim Management Committee, but the Senate opposed the IMC’s dealings with Senate committees, because it was indicted in the embezzlement of four billion, nine million naira under the guise of COVID relief.

The Nigerian Senate has passed the Niger Delta Development Commission’s N453,200,000,000 budget for 2020.
The budget for the Commission covers capital, personnel expenditure, Overhead Expenditure, Internal Capital Expenditure and Development Projects for the period ending on March 31, 2021.
The passage of the budget was as a result of the consideration of the report by the Chairman, Senate Committee on Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Delta North that the Senate “do receive and consider the report of the Committee on the 2020 Budget estimates…”
The Committee on Niger Delta chairman, Senator Nwaoboshi, who laid the NDDC budget before the Senate said that the Committee carried out a holistic oversight of the Commission and noted that the developmental aspect of the budget was basically a rollover of the 2019 Budget which was in furtherance of the drive to ensure completion of ongoing projects.
