Hamilton, Jones Celebrated With ACC s UNITE Award

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State Head Men’s Basketball Coach Leonard Hamilton, and former women’s basketball standout Morgan M. Jones have been clebrated by the Atlantic Coast Conference as recipients of the 2022 ACC UNITE Award. The award was created in 2021 to celebrate individuals affiliated with the league who have made an impact in the areas of racial and social justice. The UNITE Award is an initiative of the ACC’s Committee for Racial and Social Justice (CORE - Champions of Racial Equity). Hamilton is the Seminoles’ all-time winningest coach with 395 wins and is the fifth all-time winningest coach in ACC history with 177 wins in conference play. Wayne Jenkins, Barbara Kennedy-Dixon named ACC UNITE Award Recipients

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Wayne Jenkins and Barbara Kennedy-Dixon have been named Clemson’s recipients of the 2022 ACC UNITE Award, which was created in 2021 to honor individuals affiliated with the league who have made an impact in the areas of racial and social justice. In addition to being the ACC’s all-time leading scorer and rebounder - man or woman - Kennedy-Dixon served Clemson with distinction for more than 30 years as a coach and administrator prior to her passing in 2018. Jenkins enrolled at Clemson in the Fall of 1969 as a member of the Track & Field team, making him one of the first two African American student-athletes at Clemson, joining Craig Mobley (Basketball) that semester. Mobley earned the UNITE award in 2021, and it was later confirmed that Jenkins enrolled in the same academic semester. Cookie Blakney, the first women’s athlete of color, was also honored in 2021. (theACC.com) – As part of the Atlantic Coast Conference’s continued commitment to inclusion, social justice and racial equity, the league has announced plans for the conference’s second annual Fall Unity Week, which will be held Oct. 23-30. The theme for the 2021-22 academic year is ‘Awareness to Action,’ which is intended to challenge each individual to get involved in activities that promote unity and connect with people and organizations that affect positive change in our communities.
