A $50 fine was approved Monday for owners of businesses that violate Shelby County s health and mask directives.
The ordinance, which was approved by the Shelby County Commission, does not apply to individual members of the public who violate the directives.
Supporters of the measure stressed that the goal was to avoid business shutdowns, saying the majority of businesses are acting in accordance with health guidelines.
“The vast majority of businesses are complying and it’s just a very few bad actors that are not,”said Commission Vice-Chair Brandon Morrison. “We’re faced with hospitals filling up and people dying needlessly. If we do nothing, I’m afraid we’ll end up with stay at home, and that would be the worst o
