BELTON â As it does every decade, Bell County is now preparing for redistricting â though this time it is not alone.
An interlocal agreement between the county, Temple Independent School District, and the cities of Temple and Killeen was unanimously approved by the Commissioners Court on Monday. The agreement is to allow the four bodies to collectively be redistricted by the same company this year.
The four entities will have the county act as a financial agent for the agreement, but with each able to work with the firm Bickerstaff Heath Delgado Acosta LLP on their own.
County Judge David Blackburn said that the county and cities previously redistricted on their own each time, not focusing on working with each other.

Floyd died in May of 2020 after former Minneapolis Police officer Derek Chauvin knelt on his neck for over nine minutes. Chauvin was convicted last month of two counts of murder and one count of manslaughter.
In 2004, Floyd was convicted on a drug charge for an alleged sale of $10 of crack cocaine in Texas.
At the time, Floyd pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 10 months of jail time, according to a resolution put forth by the Harris County Commissioners Court.

SMITH COUNTY, Texas The Smith County Fire Marshal’s Office has been busier than usual with fires this year, but is also working hard on its emergency management duties.
Smith County Fire Marshal Jay Brooks gave a report to the Commissioners Court on Tuesday regarding his department.
Brooks reports he and other county officials have been meeting in a joint Emergency Operations Center with the City of Tyler for more than a year to deal with issues regarding the COVID-19 pandemic. So far, there has been 73 in-person EOC meetings and 327 virtual meetings.
